Selling someone on your Phd is an arduous task, so concentrate on what you do because that is really interesting. I love your insightful postcards and your photos are amazing. π
I am on a mission to make it at least a tiny bit more accessible and relatable, glad you enjoy it. Your feedback makes me smile a big smile over my coffee here! π₯°
Omg I was squealing at your photos - you know what Iβm researching, so you understand πSooooo beautiful! I hope I get to go to the Arctic as well some day.
Itβs so great that you take the time to explain what a PhD is - a lot of people donβt know what it is. I remember when I started mine, people were asking me what I was doing and I said PhD. Then they said so what is that? And I told them a Doctorate.
The question I mostly got was: βBut youβre an English teacher. Why do you want to become a doctor?β (They meant a medical doctor.)
So I needed to explain further - and itβs fine. Some people donβt know. π(I did initially wonder why they didnβt, though π)
You might want to take a look at my earlier postcards from Svalbard and the pictures I took up there π
I really hope to visit the Arctic one day, not only for your research but also for personal experience. It's such a unique and magical region of the world.
So happy you can relate to this experience. I actually feel that unless you have studied a master's degree or know someone who works in academia, most people will associate a doctorate with a medical doctor rather than an academic education for any other research field there is. But I feel the two of us are also want to change exactly that π
