Thank you so much for taking us behind the scenes. (By the way, when we went to Germany as a family in 2019, we visited Köln!)

I love you followed your heart, even though it was unconventional and I’m sure very trying at times. Hooray for supportive partners who believe in us and what makes us happy!

I’m stretching my bravery muscles for whatever is going to unfold, so that I’m ready to do my version of the trip to Sweden, when the time comes. ✨

How exciting, how did you and your family like Köln? I know, it is not the most beautiful city from an architecture point of view (major destructions during WWII).

Thank you so much for your kind words. And as far as I tell, you have already come quite close to your "trip to Sweden" - but I am super excited to see what will unfold further for you!

It’s intriguing to see someone map their path by the constellations of curiosity and passion, rather than the rigid coordinates of convention. Keep charting your course with the bold strokes of your pen and the vivid hues of your photographs.

Oh my heavens, I absolutely loved reading your story! I was holdin' on to my hot chocolate (cause I'm not a tea girl either) for dear life, just waitin' for the next twist and turn! Your photos were such a nice touch to the story- I loved seeing them all! I can relate so much to your story. I mean, the part where you talk about not exploring other options outside of Germany...not wanting to be a burden, cause trouble or disruption... omg same girl, saammee. I still struggle with that sometimes! And I almost fell out of my chair when I read that you packed up the Mini, took the dog, said goodbye to Sven, and drove to Sweden! YAASSS girrlll! I was hootin' and hollerin' and wavin' my pom poms for you (and honestly for Sven too cause we love a man that supports our dreams)! Also, this is the part where I cried inspirational happy tears because I KNOW that was a hard goodbye but so damn worth it. Thank you for sharing your story. Your words reminded me how brave I am (and can continue to be) too. Here's to figuring things out along the way, gratitude, and being lost together. Go get 'em, sis. I'll be here sippin' my hot chocolate and cheerin' you on all the way. 🧡

Oh Ashley, now YOU got me sitting here in a puddle of tears. It's not only your words, it's what comes along with them - the way you CAN relate, empathise, recognise and re-assure any aspect that comes with my story is a bit overwhelming to me right now. I am so glad we found each other here. Looking so much forward to holding on to the rails of your journey, too! Big big hug 🫠

Aweee, that is such a lovely German word. German can be cute - sometimes 🫠

I love the German language. I studied it for a long time and was fortunate to live there for a while with my studies and work. P.s. I know I still owe you some questions, I’ll get round to it soon enough! Hope you’re having a good week 👍🏻

These are super interesting facts about you! Do you have a favourite German word?

I think one of mine is "herzlich" which is not really translatable. Maybe some combination of "genuine" and "wholehearted".

Schönes Wochenende 😊

Actually I do, don’t laugh though… it’s gottverlassene Loch 😂 I have no idea why 🤷🏻‍♀️

That is so funny, I want to go from (biomedical) science to IT. Hoping for a more nomadic lifestyle not tied to a lab. Have you heard of Tara Oceans? That project ALMOST convinced me to do lab-tied marine science haha

Expand full comment

Hahah, that is really funny. Switching of roles. Although I can understand that doing solely lab-work can be quite hard and monotonous. No, haven't heard of Tara Oceans, but will check them out.

Good luck with your next steps towards IT and if I can be of any help, I am happy to do so!
