Fabienne, I had all your sleep problems and IBS during my residency. I followed everything that I researched about. But everything was only partially helping me.

I started sleeping better only when I finished my residency aka I slowed down. I also took magnesium and melatonin supplements which helped me. Look for ways to slow down and have less on your plate at a time, if that might me the issue.

Also, recently I started getting busy again with many new ventures. You know what, I am starting to get the sleep issues again. This is a reminder for me take it back to my pace.

I'll send you a poster regarding sleep health. Try it out if you find it helpful.

Oh dear, it’s so kind of you taking the time to share your own experience with me.

Yes, I certainly know where some of it comes from and it has to do with a lot of things going on, some of which I can control and others I can’t.

It’s also about finding and prioritising some tools that help me to slow down within the middle of chaos since we all go through these periods again and again and I want to be able to team with my body and not fight against what it’s trying to tell me. Hope you refine your Balance again, too.

I recently noticed that magnesium is helping a lot - but it’s also specific magnesium connections that work better for me than others!

Would be lovely to see the poster that you are talking about!

Love to read a letter from you! ❤️ But sorry to hear about sleep and IBS issues, hopefully things get better soon! I also have some IBS issues, but haven't gotten to a good solution yet that doesn't involve not eating 90% of the foods I like 😔 so I will be interested to hear if you find any good tips! 🤞

And thank you so much for mentioning my post! 😊 I find it so fascinating to hear what kinds of landscapes are most soothing for different people!

Oh no, sorry to hear you have to deal with it, too. Well, right now, I am unfortunately on a rather restrictive diet, but I am seeing small progress. Will keep you posted!

I want to help so bad with your sleep and IBS troubles. But I know you consume a lot of the same things as I do, so I guess you've read already a lot about it. (AKA Andrew Huberman) And no point of giving meaningless tips.

I had bad sleep problems when I was depressed and the 4-7-8 breathing has been the only thing working for me. I still use it today.

I don't have IBS, but don't know if you are familiar with Tim Spector's work? He talks a lot about the gut microbiome system.

Salted rice cakes sounds delicious btw 😍 and cool roadtrip coming up 🤩 enjoy your Sunday!!

Marie, you are just so sweet 😍. I am actually listening to the Andrew Huberman X Dr. Matt Walker series on sleep right now. And I am happy to report that I made it to a bit over 8 hours last night! I'm really sorry to hear you have been bothered with it, too, but it's good that the breathing is working!

I will check out Tim Spector, I haven't heard of him!

Hahaha, that's so funny. The salted rice cakes are actually "what I cried about." I am used to the unsalted ones in Germany and really do not like their salty taste.

Omg I was already confused on the 'whale meat' - I was thinking, she cannot like this?? Who does??? I missed the part 'cry about'. 🙈🤣

I like episode of The Diary of a CEO with Tim Spector, he also has his own podcast series. I started reading his book some weeks ago, but stopped (somehow The Fourth Wing took all my reading space 🤪), I should pick it up again.

Yeah, whale meat consumption is something I have a hard time with. 🙈 I have never tried it, and as long as I am not offered it in an indigenous, self-sustaining community, I have a strong adversity to even try it.

Seeing it in grocery stores and restaurant menus gives me chills. However, I have also learned to respect cultures and opinions. The way Norway approaches and conducts whaling is widely different from, e.g., the Japanese whaling industry or the grind on the Faeroe Islands (something that hurts me so much that I have to shut down social media whenever a picture appears in my feed 😰 I am grateful that there are people fighting this since my little heart can't even stand the idea of this practice). I even know marine mammal scientists who consume whale meat.

In this light, I can accept whale meat consumption in Northern Norway without personal judgement. But I can't get my heart and soul around to a state of emphasising.

That's so true, I trie to be mindful of other cultures as well, we only know what we've been grown up with. So things can be very weird to us and very normal to them and the other way around.

Those images from Japan and Faeroe Islands are just so hard ingrained in our brains, it's hard to unsee them. But it must be part of an ancient old Nordic culture indeed.

Salted rice cakes and our planet for the gooo. Also sorry about IBS and your sleep problems :( having an unstable gut system can be so so tough. I understand. Also, yes, sometimes, nothing works eh? But we keep (slowly) powering through 💪

Ahhh, thanks for your lovely words.

Yes, we keep getting better and better listening to our bodies - they are incredibly self-sufficient if we let them.

Also, Salted rice cakes made me cry. 🤣 In Germany we have them with and without salt and I can’t stand the taste of salt in them.
